WHAT IS MINGA?

MINGA is the Ecuadorian Federation for Identity Management, which is managed by Red CEDIA and allows Universities, Research Centers, and all CEDIA members to connect to different online services within the federation, as well as other identity providers (IDPs) with which CEDIA has agreements (third-party applications such as libraries, advanced services, research applications, etc.) and always with the same identification delivered by the institution to its users.

OBJECTIVE

Provide a computer platform to the member institutions of CEDIA. This will allow them to manage the identity of their users within a local Authentication and Authorization infrastructure locally, but also allowing their connection to other organizations or services within the Federation and even to other federations worldwide, which has agreements with MINGA.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

One of the most important features of the MINGA federation is that it allows the administration of delegated accounts to each institution, that is, each of them maintains a total administration of their own accounts and passwords, as well as permits. On the other hand, it will allow a simple way for the technical staff to add new federated services, be they from the institution or outside of it, and above all, transparently for the user. All this because previously the Identity administration will already be working. As part of security, MINGA is structured in such a way that users' passwords never leave the institution, because the federation is a link with the services. The MINGA federation will allow the user, after authenticating for the first time, to obtain direct access to all the services offered by CEDIA and the other federations, in addition to those that could be contracted directly by each institution.

FEDERATION POLICIES

The "MINGA" federation has a set of user policiesicon which define aspects of governance as well as technical standards that must be met, as well as rules and requirements to be part of the federation. In order to be part of the MINGA federation it is necessary for both, the institutions that are going to be identity providers and the others deliver services to the members.
